You might be surprised to know that vitamins and minerals in dandelion include:

  • Beta-carotene (converts to vitamin A). A 100g of dandelion contains over the daily recommended intake of vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential to keep your skin healthy
  • Zinc
  • Iron. Dandelion contain almost 40% iron. Iron makes healthy red blood cells, which carry all nutrients and oxygen around your body. 
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium 
  • Fibre
  • Vitamin C. The leaves contains over 50% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

  • Dandelion Face Mask: Make dandelion tea as above. Let cool. Use a cotton pad to apply, when your skin dries, apply more. You can keep applying the tea for as long as you wish. You can apply the face mask once a week. 
  • Dandelion Tea Recipe: you can use dandelion leaves or dandelion flowers or both to make this tea. I like to use the whole plant, leaves and flowers. Add 2 cups of water. Boil on the hob for 5 minutes.  In autumn and winter there are no flowers, so just use the leaves. You can also dry the dandelion plant or buy dried leaves and flowers and brew like a regular cup of tea.

There are no known risks of applying dandelion to your skin. 

If you choose to drink dandelion tea, there may be some risks. 

Dandelion is a natural diuretic. Like coffee. This means dandelion makes you get rid of water more i.e. you will wee more. If you have any liver or kidney problems, avoid drinking dandelion tea.

If you are taking blood pressure or blood thinner medication, avoid drinking dandelion tea.
