I know, there is no end of advice online about skincare. There is also no end to the skincare routine steps and products you have to use (apparently). Cleanse, tone, moisturise, apply serum, eye cream… I think I have made my point.

Firstly, this is not easy skincare. After a long day’s work do you really want to do all that? I know I don’t. Nobody does. Unless you have like all the time in the world.

This also means that you are not going to stick to this skincare routine. You will keep having problems and this cycle will continue.

Fear not.

In this article you will find an easy skincare routine in 3 steps. A simple skin are routine you can stick to. I am all about natural beauty, natural ingredients and an easy life. I am sure you are too.  And if you are looking for natural skincare tips for oily skin check out my article here.

On this page you will find:

Before we get into the 3 step simple skincare routine I want to highlight some rules. There were always going to be rules. If you want naturally beautiful skin, you will stick to the rules.

I say rules, more suggestions. The only consequence if you break them is your skin suffering.

Simple skincare rule number 1 | Consistency

This shouldn’t be surprising. If you are looking for a simple and effective skin care routine you have to be consistent. You have to be consistent if you want to achieve anything: lose weight, get good grades, get a promotion… You have to be consistent even with a simple skincare routine.

Otherwise even a simple skin care routine will not be effective. And then you’ll say: “I read this on a blog by The Clear Sky! It didn’t work!”

Simple skin care rule number 2 | Time

Like I always say – natural beauty needs time. This goes hand in hand with consistency really. Here at The Clear Sky I believe that you need time and patience to see results (in most cases). That is how our bodies work. If you give your body consistent TLC it will reward you.

Today we are obsessed with instant results for everything. We don’t seem to want to wait, for anything. This is why beauty procedures like Botox are so popular. The results are almost instant. Makes it quite addictive.

Simple skincare rule number 3 | Check ingredients

I am all about totally natural skincare that is also simple. When I say totally natural skincare, I mean products derived from plants and minerals. Nothing synthetic or plastic.

You will be surprised how many skincare products look natural. But they are not. This means that when you are trying your best to be healthy, you are just adding chemicals to your body. It is your money. Check what you are buying. Look at the ingredients label.

If there are words you can’t pronounce, you might want to put that item back on the shelf.

Now you know the rules, let’s get to the simple skincare routine.

3 Simple skin care routine steps

Simple skincare routine step 1 | Cleanse

Cleansing is just a fancy word for washing. Just wash your face with a face wash. I cleanse my face in the morning and at night. In the morning I use a face wash to remove some dirt and oil build-up. At night, for the same reason. Also, as I have said in my article here your skin regenerates and rests at night. This means that your skin needs to be clean.

I am not suggesting that your skin is dirty. No need to scrub it like you would a frying pan. A gentle wash with natural soap is enough. Remember, the skin on your face is quite thin. Especially around the eyes. You don’t need to tug at your face like an old washing up sponge.

Make sure you cleanse your skin if you have dry, oily or combination skin.  Cleansing should form part of your morning and nighttime skincare routine.

Gentle Cleansers

Odylique Creamy Coconut Cleanser

  • non comedogenic cleanser, will not clog pores
  • suitable for dry and sensitive skin
  • gentle cleanser

Odylique Honey & Oat Cleansing Bar

  • plastic free biodegradable packaging
  • natural exfoliant
  • can be used for face and body
  • suitable for sensitive skin

Logona Organic Eye Makeup Remover Oil

  • gentle makeup remover
  • oil cleanser
  • suitable for sensitive skin
  • naturally moisturising

Most face washes have harmful chemicals as ingredients. These face products strip your skin of everything. For example, you need some oil on your skin so that it can stay moisturised. The chemicals in the face wash make sure you have to buy more products to fix your dry skin. When skin is stripped of natural oils, it can go into overdrive. Producing too much oil.

The face wash you are using could be making your skin problems (if you have any) worse.

When buying a face wash or a soap bar, look for natural ingredients like coconut oil and lemon . I like natural soap bars because they are plastic free.

Vinegar can be used as a natural toner.

For dry skin, you can use a cleansing oil. But remember. Beauty comes from within.

Think about why your skin is dry. Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating enough fruit and vegetables to get the vitamins for your skin? Try and address the causes of dry skin as much as possible.

Simple Skincare routine 2 | Tone

I always try to use natural ingredients on my skin and this includes face toner. If you can eat it, you can put it on your skin.

My face toner stage can include anything I like. Depends on the time and the mood I am in. For example I use lemon as face toner. I squeeze some lemon juice onto a cotton pad and apply to my skin after cleansing. Its so simple.

If you don’t have lemon, use vinegar instead. Does the same job. I don’t mix vinegar with any water when I use it as a toner. I apply it directly using a cotton pad.

Natural Toners and Serums

Acala Organic Rosewater

  • recycled glass bottle
  • spray top can be reused reducing plastic waste
  • suitable for sensitive and dry skin

Odylique Balancing Citrus Super Tonic

  • natural face toner
  • suitable for oily and combination skin
  • can be used as a natural moisturiser

Lavera Purifying Facial Toner for Combination or Oily Skin

  • natural toner
  • suitable for oily and combination skin
  • can be used for teenage skin care routine
  • contains salicylic acid which exfoliates and controls oil production

Beauty industry and blogs rave about vitamin C serums and so on. Why buy expensive vitamin C serums (probably with added chemicals), when you can have the real thing! Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that lemon contains lots of vitamin C. Lemon has vitamin C in its natural form. Just put it on your skin after washing your face.

You now have a natural vitamin C serum which cost you next to nothing.

Lemon is also great at improving the look of blackheads. Apply lemon juice after washing your face.

Another example is using ice for the face. After you have washed your face apply an ice cube to your skin until all of it melts. I give advice on things you can add to the ice for more skin benefit here.

Simple skincare routine 3 | Moisturise

In the morning I like to use this natural face cream and at night I apply organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is a natural face cream and leaves your skin super soft in the morning. Its obvious when you know how much goodness is in organic coconut oil. You can buy it in any good food shop. Make sure it is organic coconut oil.

You might say, oh but I have oily skin. Would coconut oil make it worse?

Moisturisers and Face Oils

Odylique Superfruit Concentrate - 30ml

  • organic face oil
  • can be used as a natural moisturiser
  • great if you want a hydration boost

Odylique Prebiotic Rich Hydration Cream 50ml

  • suitable for dry skin
  • includes plant derived collagen to improve complexion

Timeless Rose Moisturiser 50ml

  • lightweight luxurious face cream
  • easily absorbent
  • suitable for sensitive skin
  • natural face cream

I have oily skin, and I find that coconut oil improves my skin texture. Feel free to try it first and see the results.

Is this easy skincare routine suitable for dry, sensitive and oily skin?

Yes. Using natural ingredients for your skin means that your skin will not be irritated. You can follow this simple skincare routine if you have dry, sensitive or oily skin.

I would suggest that you choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type. So if you have dry skin, you should choose a natural face cream that is rich. If you have oily or combination skin, choose a face cream that has a lighter texture, like this one I use.

That is it! You now know the 3 simple skincare routine steps.

You can definitely stick to that.

Neck skin care

I have focused a lot on simple skin care. I just want to be clear that when I talk about skin care I include the skin on your neck too. I find that people tend to neglect the neck, but it forms part of your face. If you don't look after it properly then your face will look neglected too. If you want to look younger then you have to look after your neck. Otherwise it can seriously age you.

When you are applying any creams of face masks, apply these to your neck at the same time. Your neck deserves some love.

Look after the skin on your neck in the same way as you look after dry skin.

In the morning when you wash your face, wash your neck too. At night, do the same. Then apply a face cream using upward strokes.

Simple skincare routine (extras)

There are always extras!

Once a week I do any of the following to add to my natural  skincare routine.

  1. Turmeric and yoghurt face mask (I have given the recipe of this face mask in my post here)
  2. Coffee scrub (I have provided the recipe here). You can use the coffee scrub for face and body.

Both of the above are natural exfoliators leaving your skin smooth and refreshed

I am sure you can see that I have not added sunscreen to my simple skincare routine. Personally, I don’t wear mineral sunscreen every day. I wear sunscreen when the sun is strong, during the summer months. All other times, I sometimes wear a hat when I go outside. Most days I am in work in a building so I don’t go outside at all.

That is my personal habit. It does not mean that you should not wear sunscreen. If you do, choose mineral sunscreen that works. Chemical sunscreens are harmful and some mineral sunscreens don’t actually work.

Don’t forget to do your face yoga exercises. This will keep your skin looking youthful for longer.

3 Step Skincare Routine is something you can follow every day.

To summarise the easy 3 step skincare routine:

  • Cleanse with a gentle cleanser. If you are wearing makeup, choose a cleanser that also removes makeup
  • Tone with a natural toner like lemon juice or a toner of your choice
  • Moisturise with a plant-based face cream in the morning. Use a more nourishing coconut oil or rosehip oil at night.
  • Treat yourself to a weekly homemade face mask
  • consider incorporating face yoga exercises to lift and tone the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Make sure that you are consistent with your skincare routine
  • Give time for it to show results

Conclusion: Cleanse, tone and moisturise is the 3 step simple skin care routine that even beginners can stick to

As long as you follow the 3 step skin care routine consistently, you will be looking after you skin. You can then, depending on your mood, choose extras mentioned above.  On holiday or over a weekend, you can treat your skin to a natural scrub or a face mask, or both.

Just remember to check the ingredients in beauty products to make sure they are all natural.
